Dr. David Klein's background and profession

Dr. David Klein is a Naturorthopathic Doctor with a Ph.D. in Natural Health and Healing from the University of Natural Health. He also holds a Nutrition Educator certification from Bauman College. Dr. Klein's approach to health is wholistic and based on the principles of Natural Hygiene, which he believes to be the world's most successful health science program over the last 200 years.

Dr. Klein's journey into health education began in 1975, when he was 17 years old. At the time, he was a heavy eater of meat and junk food, and his physical and mental energies began to deteriorate. After six months, he started experiencing incessant diarrhea and was subsequently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Over the next eight years, he struggled with colitis flare-ups and diarrhoea, losing 50% of his bone density, and suffering from severe malnutrition, depression, and chronic fatigue.

In 1984, Dr. Klein's health took a turn for the better when he discovered the work of Natural Hygiene pioneers, Dr. Herbert M. Shelton and T.C. Fry. He also found Dr. Laurence Galant, who introduced him to the concept of a natural diet of mostly raw fruits and vegetables. This inspired him to adopt a 100% vegan diet of mostly raw foods, which he has maintained since.

In 1991, Dr. Klein launched his career in health education after becoming certified as a nutrition educator. He founded the Colitis & Crohn's Health Recovery Center in 1993 and started the raw food magazine, Living Nutrition, in 1994. In 2006, he earned his Hygienic Doctorate degree in Natural Health and Healing from the University of Natural Health, and his book, Self Healing Colitis & Crohn's, served as his thesis.

Today, Dr. Klein is recognised as a world leader in healing from colitis and Crohn's disease through natural methods. He has counselled thousands of clients back to health via the principles of Natural Hygiene and has taught nutrition classes and given health and nutrition lectures. He is also the Dean of the online Vibrant Health & Wealth Academy, which he founded in 2015, and the founder of the Fruiticulture Institute, established in 2018.

Dr. Klein's personal experience with colitis and veganism

Dr. David Klein's journey into health education began in 1975, when he was 17 years old. Up until that point, he had enjoyed robust health, but his physical and mental energies began to deteriorate over a period of six months. He experienced incessant diarrhoea and was subsequently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. He spent his 18th birthday in the hospital, taking prednisone and azulfadine drug treatments.

The medications slowed his symptoms, but they also had extreme side effects. Klein described the impact of prednisone as feeling "brain-damaged", and the whole experience as "incredibly traumatic". Over the next few years, he battled non-stop colitis flare-ups and diarrhoea, losing 50% of his bone density. He suffered from severe malnutrition, depression, and chronic fatigue.

Klein saw seven gastroenterologists, all of whom told him that diet had nothing to do with his symptoms. Eventually, he began exploring nutrition himself and visited a nutritionist, who simply pushed more pills. It was only when he found Dr. Laurence Galant, a Doctor of Natural Hygiene, that Klein was introduced to the concept of a natural, plant-based diet.

At first, Klein was sceptical of the idea of eating raw foods while suffering from constant diarrhoea. However, he slowly began to clean up his diet, although he still experienced flare-ups and relied on medication. In the fall of 1984, a colonoscopy confirmed that Klein had advanced ulcerations throughout his colon. The gastroenterologist recommended either an experimental drug that knocks out the immune system or surgery to remove his colon.

Klein decided he had had enough of the medical nightmare and wanted to find his own answer. One night, while studying T.C. Fry's Life Science/Natural Hygiene course, he had a healing vision. He understood that he needed to eat a plant-based diet with plenty of raw fruits and vegetables to allow his body to purge itself of the wastes that were poisoning his colon. The next day, he threw away his medications, gave up meat and dairy, and started a 3-day juice cleanse. By the third day, he was feeling better and his bowels were working better.

Klein adopted a diet with plenty of fruit, which he found harmonised best with his mind, body, and spirit. His energy levels increased as he detoxified and began rebuilding his body. Within about six weeks, he felt that his colon had completely healed. Over the next few years, he worked diligently to rebuild his body, incorporating daily running and yoga, while also studying the life sciences.

In 1993, Klein became certified as a Nutrition Educator and began providing nutrition and healing consultations. He has since counselled thousands of clients back to health via the principles of Natural Hygiene. Today, Klein enjoys excellent health and has been symptom-free for over 30 years. He continues to teach and help others discover the way to heal and build superior health.

The Vegan Healing Diet Plan

The diet consists of eating 1000-1500 calories of specific fruits and vegetables, including bananas, dates, sweet fruits, and steamed sweet potatoes and squash. The theory behind this diet is that by eating nutrient-rich, detoxifying foods that are gentle on the inflamed colon, the body can heal itself and maintain long-lasting health.

Dr. Klein's approach to healing is holistic and based on his own unique healing journey, as well as his studies of various disciplines of health science. He has been directing the Colitis & Crohn's Health Recovery Center in Maui, Hawaii since 1993, and has counselled thousands of clients back to health, 99% of whom have successfully healed.

Dr. Klein's journey towards creating the Vegan Healing Diet Plan began when he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 18. After struggling with the condition for almost a decade and facing severe health issues, he decided to take matters into his own hands and explore the concept of a natural, plant-based diet. He credits Dr. Laurence Galant, who introduced him to the idea of eating mostly raw fruits and vegetables, with saving his life.

Within a few days of starting the raw food diet, Dr. Klein began to experience improvements in his health, and within a few weeks, his bloodied, ulcerated colon had healed. This life-changing experience inspired him to dedicate his life to helping others heal through a raw food diet and holistic practices.

In addition to the Vegan Healing Diet Plan, Dr. Klein has written several books, including "Self Healing Colitis and Crohn's", "Digestion Perfection", and "The Fruits of Healing". He has also founded the Fruiticulture Institute and the online Vibrant Health & Wealth Academy, where he teaches others about natural health and healing.

The drawbacks of Dr. Klein's diet

Dr. David Klein's diet is a restrictive, raw, vegan diet that may be challenging to follow. Here are some potential drawbacks to his approach:

  • Extreme Dietary Restrictions: Dr. Klein's diet is very restrictive, eliminating all animal products and processed foods. This can be challenging for people who are not accustomed to such a limited diet and may lead to social and practical difficulties when eating outside of the home or with others.
  • Calorie Deficit: The diet may not provide sufficient calories, as it focuses primarily on fruits and vegetables with lower calorie densities. This can lead to unintentional weight loss and malnutrition if not carefully managed.
